Recon, Airstrikes, Helicopters...the usual

Modern Warfare 2 opened up the door with customizable killstreaks and hopefully this time around people wont complain about them as much in Black Ops. Combining some killstreaks from the previous 3 titles and adding a few of their own it looks like they should be pretty fun but we won't know until the game's actually been played by the community.

A few quick facts about killstreaks in Black Ops.

*You can still keep killstreaks "in your pocket", meaning that if you get another killstreak before you have an opportunity to call in your 1st one you can still call them both in, but in reverse order (just like MW2)*

*Kills acquired from killstreaks no longer stack towards higher killstreak rewards. (you can't use an RC-XD to get a SAM Turret)

*There is no "nuke" or game ending killstreak this time

*All killstreaks are available for purchase with your CP at level 10 and as usual you can only have 3 at a time.

Going back to CoD 4 and WaW you start out with the 3,5.7 killstreak set up. These are Spy Plane (UAV), Care Package, and Attack Helicopter.

3 Kills - Spy Plane

Shows enemy players (without ghost) on the map for 30 seconds.

Free

3 Kills - RC-XD

Allows the player to control a remote controlled car strapped with C4. **30 second timer**
Controls
Left Bumper - Boost
Right Trigger - Detonate
Left Trigger - Hand Brake
1200 CP
4 Kills - Counter Spy Plane

Disables enemy map for 30 seconds.

1600 CP

4 Kills - SAM Turret

Airdrop a placeable SAM Turret that destroys enemy aircraft (except the Blackbird). It's basically like the Sentry Gun, drop a crate, pick it up, place it somewhere and let it go to work for you.

1600 CP

5 Kills - Care Package
Airdrop a random killstreak, special weapon, or ammo.
(Unknown how high of a killstreak you can get from a care package)
*Special Weapons*: Death Machine (mini-gun), Grim Reaper (semi-auto rocket launcher)
**Unwanted killstreaks or ammo can be rerolled by double tapping X with hardline pro perk**
Free
5 Kills - Napalm Strike

Airstrike that covers the area in fire.

 2400 CP

6 Kills - Sentry Gun

Airdrop a placeable sentry gun.

Should be similar to MW2's sentry gun but with it being increased to a 6 Killstreak it might be improved and deadlier. (also there may not be a perk to counter it completely)
3200 CP
6 Kills - Mortar Team

Allows you to call in 3 separate Mortar Strikes in different locations on the map.

 3200 CP
7 Kills - Attack Helicopter
Call in an AI controlled helicopter to attack enemies.
*When you call in the Attack Helicopter, the map pops up and allows you to choose which direction you want it to enter the map from (very useful instead of having it fly in on the opposite side of the map from the enemies)*
Free
7 Kills - Valkyrie Rockets

Airdrops a crate with 2 Valkyrie Rocket launchers in them which can be fired from your character and then controlled in the air. (think like a shoulder fired predator)
**has a timer on it, enemies show up with red squares around them from the rockets' point of view**
4000 CP
8 Kills - Blackbird
Call in an SR-71 Blackbird to reveal enemies (without ghost) and their directions on the map. This acts like a Spy Plane but is constant, meaning it doesn't have to scan every 3-4 seconds so the enemy is constantly on the map as red triangles so you can see their direction. (unknown duration)

**Cannot be shot down**
4500 CP
8 Kills - Rolling Thunder

Call in a carpet bomb.
Yep...lots and lots of bombs.

4500 CP
9 Kills - Chopper Gunner
Allows you to fire a mini-gun from the side door of an helicopter.
***Much different than the MW2 chopper gunner. Hutch said that while he was in one they got rid of the infrared/thermal vision and it's just normal vision from your point of view. I'm not sure if the red boxes are returning to make it easier or not***
5000 CP
11 Kills - Attack Dogs

Call in a pack of vicious attack dogs.
***Dogs are now a 1 bite kill***
Not a whole lot to say, highest killstreak in the game, could be incredibly OP depending on how many dogs are called in and how much health they have.

6000 CP
11 Kills - Gunship
Pilot an attack helicopter. Allows you full control of a helicopter with a mini-gun (right trigger) and rockets (left trigger). 'B' to toggle your HUD. 'Left Thumbstick' to toggle your controls.
--The killstreak I'm most excited about just to see how it works and if you can shoot down incoming SAM turrets or RPGs to prevent from getting shot down.
**Red Squares are much more difficult to see**
6000 CP

Phew, that was a long one, well there ya go, all 15 killstreaks. Feel free to comment and discuss which killstreaks you're looking forward to using. Enjoy.

  1. They got it right this time around. I got a love/hate with the dogs but it will be better having to get 11 kills instead of the seven in WaW and I can't wait to get behind the controls of that chopper!!! Also glad that kill streak rewards don't count to your kill streak. I don't think i can make it the 40 more days. Maybe I should go into the mountains and freeze myself until it is released :)

  2. Hopefully you can't get the 11 killstreaks from Care Packages, that could ruin a lot of close games just by luck haha
